Adobe is adapting to the times and allowing editing of Shorts videos. Is this a comeback?

I don't want to sound bad, but I feel like Adobe is asking quite a lot of money for something that other tools do the same (if not better) with a better user experience and sometimes even cheaper.

For example, Adobe XD vs. Figma

Adobe Premiere vs. DaVinci Resolve, etc.

But now Adobe is partnering with YouTube so that users can edit their short videos (which have been trendy since 2018, but Adobe only understood it in 2025).

At a time when CapCut or even Edits from Meta are live.

[The new YouTube Shorts integration for Premiere will include a range of templates, effects, stickers, and more, which you can use to build your Shorts creations in the Premiere desktop and mobile apps.]

  • How do you perceive Adobe's innovation? Is it falling behind the times, or is it still a prominent brand?

  • Are you planning to use this video editing tool for Shorts?

[P.S.: What would you advise me to use instead of CapCut? I am not satisfied with the way they handle data. Love the software, but not the approach. Is there anything very similar?]

Adobe’s still powerful, but it’s reacting, not leading. The Shorts integration feels less like innovation and more like catching up.

It’s great for pros already in the Adobe ecosystem, but everyday creators moved on years ago to faster, cheaper, lighter tools.

If you love CapCut’s UX but not its data policy, try Descript (smart editing), Runway (AI creativity), or Pika (fast, automated).

Adobe still carries weight, but speed and user empathy win this era.

@nosheen_kanwal I think that Adobe only capitalises on its previous "fame". But their tools do not seem to be innovative (to me). I would welcome something that is similar to UX/UI of CapCut :) But I think it will be difficult to find something similar.

@busmark_w_nika You're right. That's the reason building a brand is a priority ;)
I also like CapCut's UX btw, but alternatives are there (maybe with better data policies), but not with better or similar UX. I also tried many others, but some are too complicated, and others too laggy.

Controls always get me, ugh.

Nika

@nosheen_kanwal If you could pick up only one tool, which one would you pick?

@busmark_w_nika I’d still go with CapCut 😎Sure, maybe it fumbles your data, but let’s be honest, who handles life flawlessly?

Adobe’s still a major brand, but it just feels like they’re reacting rather than leading these days.
There are a few good options that are fast, user-friendly options out there, and IG Edits is experimenting very heavily with features – could very easily surpass the other competitors.

If you want a CapCut alternative with better data privacy, try DaVinci Resolve or VN Video Editor.

Nika

@sanskarix I have DaVinci Resolve but they still lack those shorts templates and features :/

@busmark_w_nika Then I'd say use CapCut lol or just wait for some time, Meta Edits will soon have great features and templates.

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, does a weekly QnA session and has said multiple times that they're testing these things very heavily on Edits. Changes will be live soon hopefully

Nika

@sanskarix yeah, but probably Meta will be more pricey when it comes to editing tool :D

Adobe still feels like the industry standard, but not always the standard for usability anymore.

Nika

@abod_rehman I am wondering which of their product generates them the best outcomes :D

This is a good move to try take back entry market share from the Capcuts and Canvas.

Nika

@vsteppp if their features are as good as those of CapCut and Canva, then yes.

Frankly they arrive very very late. This is no doubt a reprise of their flop against Figma. They should be trying to develop tech for the next wave, not jump into the old one. Templates, effects, even AI gimmicks like Adobe Firefly are already old. What's coming is literally editing videos with natural-language prompts, having an AI editor on autopilot, editing directly the posts already assembled, not each file separately... That's what we do at Rkive AI, and if a small startup like us is already this far ahead, they are very very late to the party 😌

Regarding CapCut alternatives, our app is great for repetitive edits of carousels, reels, infographics, specially if you sync it to your camera roll. And we do have a very clear privacy policy! But we don't provide manual editing or quirky effects yet. For manual stuff, I do use CapCut sometimes, even if I hate the experience 💀

Nika

@alberto_luengo Those manual edits are crucial to me because I do not always like what AI does for me :D

It seems that Adobe Premiere Pro could be used to edit videos in the Shorts format. Or are they releasing a new product specifically for these types of videos? 🤨

Nika

@ixord I think it is a part of Premier, but not so completely sure. They present it as something in collaboration with YouTube.
