Sociall (Beta)

A secure and private decentralised social network for all.

Sociall is a new generation of networking. It is a secure and private decentralised social network for all. Sociall encrypts all data and multimedia uploads and stores it securely all over the world, making it completely decentralised. Sociall plans to move the entire platform to self-governing, giving the power back to the people.

What do you think? …

Onutz Verde
Very nice idea. I have some questions: 1. How are you going to make money, therefore how are you going to sustain the platform? 2. What's the benefit of crypto for the end user? Thanks! Edit: I think the answer to first question is "marketplace"? Vero-like?
Jade Mulholland
@utestme Hi Onutz. Sociall will take very small fees from the peer-to-peer marketplace for the transactions. The main revenue maker of Sociall will be the ad platform though. The benefit of using a cryptocurrency for the end user is less fees for currency conversations, such as going from AUD->USD. Take PayPal for example, they make huge money from their conversation fees. At Sociall, we utilise a singular native currency for the entire platform, therefore making it "borderless". It does not matter where you live or what main currency you use - anyone you interact with on Sociall will be using SCL. We will be making the experience extremely easy and painless for the end user. No technical knowledge or previous use of cryptocurrencies will be required. To the end user, they don't even need to know that cryptocurrencies are used in the background. To them, SCL is just the native currency of SCL, and Sociall will handle all technical aspects in the background for them. Using a cryptocurrency for this is by far the most secure approach (over a basic credits system for example).

@mulhollandjade How can I get access to beta?
Tony Brix

- Software that is "built and maintained by Sociall":

Same as facebook just different name.

- "A fully integrated a semi-automatic self-serve ad platform":

Users are still the product

- "instant access debit card":

Anyone remeber the "Facebook Card"? Google it.

- "The project may eventually open some repositories":

Facebook also has some open source repos

I don't see any difference between Sociall's business model and Facebook's

Pros:

Maybe competition will push Facebook to be better.

Cons:

Same as Facebook with a different name

Jade Mulholland
Hi Tony. Thanks for your review. Sociall has many unique points of difference. Just to name a few... - Self-governing - Peer-to-peer marketplace - Integrated blogging - Crowdfunding capabilities - Decentralised (moving to IPFS soon) - Complete open-source (not just a few repos) I highly recommend reading into the project further, along with the technical implementations that are stated in the whitepaper. Thanks!

Looks very Promising! Signed up for the beta :) Eager to get access! (y)

@venkatshukla Thanks Venkat! More invitations will be sent out later in the week.

This looks amazing and I like it. The idea is great. It has a neat UI. Looks like something that could grow. Whitepaper makes sense..... except. Does this need a whitepaper? No wait... excuse me...does this need another freakin cryptocurrency/token for a f'in social network? You know that you hamper your audience with this? I ain't using a social network my friends won't use. And they won't. Because people get scared away when you mention crypto. Because I don't wanna have another wallet. Because I don't care about freaking tokens and exchanges. Also a debit card? A DEBIT CARD? Just focus on the social network part. Real world users don't care about tokens. But I assume in the crypto echo chamber everyone will say it's great and amazing and hype it to each other. I feel like this will fail. I hope you manage to prove me wrong. But I don't see this going mainstream.
Jade Mulholland
@ianissoawesome Hi Ian. Thank you for voicing your suggestions to us. The reason we decided to use a native cryptocurrency is so that our users are not charged with conversation fees, from AUD->USD for example. Thanks to our native token, called SCL, we can offer a true peer-to-peer marketplace for all Sociall users with minimal fees. We are working on a decentralised hosted wallet where users on Sociall can securely store and send their SCL without any technical knowledge. Everything regarding "crypto" will be in the background, and the clean Sociall UI on the frontend will handle everything in a painless way for the user. We will also allow users to "top-up" their wallet with SCL with USD or other payment methods. It completely eliminates the need for any technical knowledge or cryptocurrency exchanges. The debit card is a way for users on Sociall to spend their SCL instantly. For example, if you sell something on the Sociall marketplace and would like to spend your SCL right away, you can do so via the Sociall instant access debit card after you make the sale. Simple as that! If you'd like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly. Thanks!

I was pretty excited about this until I saw the part about cryptocurrency. Most people in my 50+ age group and those who are less tech savvy will hesitate to join. I'd love to be wrong, though.
Mo Works
@jbatutis The use of Cryptocurrency in it from my understanding is not forced.. Also the fact that it will have an integrated wallet means it will be fairly simple for people to use it. I am sure you will surprise your self ;)
Jade Mulholland
@jbatutis Hi Joe! Thanks for reaching out. The best part of Sociall is that everything to do with "cryptocurrency" is hidden in the background. Sociall will handle all "techy" parts of the transfers and storage. All the end user needs to know about is that SCL is the native currency of the platform instead of traditional money, like AUD and USD for example. With the click of a button, you'll be able to send SCL to friends, family, and even use it to buy things within the marketplace. Of course, using SCL on Sociall is completely option and is not forced.

@mulhollandjade Are you guys familiar with Jason Calacanis's challenge? You should look into it. http://calacanis.com/2018/04/20/...
Jade Mulholland
@scottwwilliams Hi Scott. We're aware of his challenge. We already have a great team together here at Sociall and we already have some funding behind us. Jason's challenge is great - although there are a fair few conditions around it that do not suit our business model unfortunately.
Rutger Bevers
What's your growth strategy? To replace general social networks like Facebook or will you focus on niches (online communities that don't require all my friends to signup in order to be valuable)? Also, I wonder why you focus so much on the cryptocurrency and wallet in your video. Assuming general people would see this first, is this really what they care for? (instead of privacy or other USP).
Jade Mulholland
@rutgerbevers Hi Rutger. Great questions! We're working alongside a reputable marketing firm in Melbourne to assist us with this. At the moment, we're only targeting the crypto/blockchain industry to gather the first wave of users. Afterwards, we'll begin broadening our audience once the platform is more stable and consists of more core features. I like that suggestion. We'll start working on a very that consists of just USP instead of focusing on the crypto part. I think a video like that would work much better on the landing page of Sociall, and it should hopefully stop scaring off the ones who tend to sway away from crypto. Thanks!
