Hey Product Hunters! 👋 I'm thrilled to introduce you to the beta version of doesitscale.dev! 🚀 As developers, we understand the importance of selecting the right technologies to build scalable applications. However, comparing pricing, features, and performance across various providers can be a daunting task. That's why I've been working on doesitscale.dev - to simplify the process of evaluating and comparing popular tech solutions. In this early beta version (v0.1), I'm primarily focusing on comparing the pricing of email and authentication providers, giving you clear insights to help you make informed decisions. But later on, I plan to expand doesitscale.dev to cover other essential services, such as: - Cloud services like AWS, Cloudflare, Vercel, Render, Google Cloud, Fly.io, etc. - Database providers just to name a few Neon, Turso, Planetscale, MongoDB, Supabase, Firestore, - Payment gateways , Stripe, Paypal, Square - And more to come! To ensure that doesitscale.dev remains up-to-date and accurate, I've made the algorithms for all the pricing calculations open-source for anyone to edit. This means that users can create pull requests and update these algorithms whenever a service changes their pricing. By taking a crowdsourcing approach, we can collectively maintain the platform and keep it as a reliable resource for the developer community. As I continue to develop doesitscale.dev, I want to ensure that we're providing the most valuable insights for developers and business owners like you. That's where I need your help! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the following: 1. What features would you like to see on doesitscale.dev to help you make informed decisions when evaluating tech solutions? Some ideas I've thought of : - A way for users to rate services based on developer experience, pricing features, and can see how the overall developer community views and service and to visualize those tradeoffs. Maybe a review system could be helpful? - Web crawlers on pricing pages of the services to ensure pricing is accurate and up to date - Historical pricing data and notifications for upcoming pricing changes (so you're always in the loop) - Some kind of easy to use pricing calculator to easier compare the services 2. Is there any specific providers or services you would like to see on the platform? That's all! Your feedback will directly shape the future of doesitscale.dev and help us create a platform that addresses the real needs and pain points of developers. So please, take a look at this early beta version, and let me know what you think! Your input is incredibly valuable as we work to build a tool that simplifies tech decision-making for all of us. Thanks for being part of this journey! 🙌 Happy building! 🛠️

Hi @porters, very nice UI for your charts! Love the idea. There are so many product niches where this tool would be useful. Two niches are really few at the moment, but I hope you'll fill them soon!

Oh wow, I love this. It'd be great to have a way for users to suggest platforms/services from within the site itself. That'd be gold! e.g., I'd have loved to suggest adding Postmark to the email provider(s) comparison. Congrats on the launch! 🎉
Ohans Emmanuel
I just noticed it's Open-source as well. So I assume contributions are welcome? Nice!!
Porter
@ohansemmanuel Thanks, you for the suggestion! I'll definitely look into adding a feature for suggesting platforms and services! Postmark is a great suggestion! I'll work on getting it added to the email provider comparison!
Porter
@ohansemmanuel Yes, anyone can contribute! I hope that the open-source nature of the project builds trust and allows people to fix any issues they come across. I also plan to add a contribution guide in the future for people who want to add new providers as well.

Definitely hit the upvote on this one because I'm all for demystifying the tech jungle Still wondering, though, how often is their info updated? In the tech world, yesterday's best deal can be today's old news. Gotta keep things fresh. If this site really helps us skip the headache of blind comparisons, that's a major win. 🛠️🚀

Huge congrats on the launch! What's the process for ensuring accuracy, and are there plans to cover more types of services beyond email and authentication?
Porter
@anastasia_chakileva_ Thank you! Here is the process I'm planning to implement to ensure accuracy: 1. Web scrape pricing pages and send notifications if changes are detected. I will then update the algorithms if they have actually changed. 2. The community will also be able to contribute by leaving feedback or submitting pull requests if anything is missed. 3. Display a "last checked" date so users know when pricing was last verified. In the future, I'm considering a system to scrape blog posts about upcoming pricing changes and schedule algorithm updates accordingly. As for expanding beyond email and authentication services, absolutely! I'm starting with these areas, but I'm already working on adding other services like cloud providers (AWS, DigitalOcean etc.). After that, I plan to move on to databases and other services based on user demand and feedback!

Congratulations, Porter, on the launch of doesitscale.dev! 🚀 Your platform addresses a crucial need for developers and businesses by simplifying the process of comparing tech solutions. It's fantastic to see the focus on transparency and crowd-sourcing to keep the platform accurate and up-to-date. I'm particularly intrigued by your plan to expand the platform to cover other essential services like cloud services, database providers, and payment gateways. That's going to be incredibly beneficial for users looking to make informed decisions across various tech domains. As you continue to develop doesitscale.dev, I'm curious about the potential for a review system where users can rate services based on their experience. It could provide valuable insights to help users navigate through the multitude of options available. Also, the idea of web crawlers for pricing pages is brilliant to ensure accuracy. I'm excited to see how doesitscale.dev evolves! Are you considering incorporating any AI or machine learning elements in the future to enhance the decision-making process? Wishing you all the best on this journey, and here's to simplifying tech decision-making for all of us! 🙌🛠️
