Lifetime Deals (LTDs) — love them or avoid them?

by

Some folks swear by them.

Fast cash, early community, momentum when you're just starting out.

Others have stories that sound more like:

“We’re still supporting a $49 user from 3 years ago… 😅”

So I’m curious - have you ever offered a Lifetime Deal for your product? Or bought one that actually aged well?

What did you learn - and would you do it again?

Would love to hear your experiences: the wins, the oops, and everything in between.

We are considering rolling out lifetime deals too on our launch.

But decided on holding back for now.

Would love to hear views on this thread and then take a call.

It really depends on your business case, and for most, it's unsustainable. If you're expecting high churn, or the service you're offering will be useful to the customer only once in a while, then by all means, a lifetime deal is probably the way to go (services for building CVs, creating the perfect Linkedin photo, generating ideas for the next startup. and so on.) However, if your service has to retain user information - or worse yet, run background processes - I think you'll eventually realize that the amount charged for the deal is either too high for customers to accept, or you'll end up paying out of your pocket.
