How to take care of your Product Hunt profile? (Mini-guide)
I believe that your chances of becoming visible on this platform also depend on how credible you appear.
In the past, there were even bots on Product Hunt, which led to the introduction of certain measures:
– stricter moderation of published content (especially forum discussions),
– profile verification (green badge),
– mandatory use of real first and last names instead of random usernames.
These steps help make profiles more trustworthy. I’d also add a few more best practices:
include your professional background, the companies you’ve worked for or currently work with, your interests, and your goals on the platform,
add links to your profile (X, LinkedIn, website),
stay active in forums (this activity is also visible at the bottom of your profile),
upload a photo (ideally a real one),
try launching a product, as this also appears in your Maker history,
and stay active overall – commenting, writing reviews, etc. – as this can influence follower growth, kitty points, and your daily login streak.
Is there anything you would add?
Maybe it’s time to polish your profile. 🙂

Given dangers I've faced in my past I have been reluctant to link my work history or linked in here. What if I were working under an organization that saw anything related to product hunt as a flight risk?
I think in this pursuit of verification we are inadvertently setting a bar that can only be cleared by privilege.
And I know the flip side, the platform does need to avoid bots, avoid spam. It needs to maintain trust.
I have a facemask on in my profile picture, this is by design. I also keep my initials as my name.
Currently I'm looking to decide how best to verify my profile with the green badge.
It is exhausting having to balance being trusted and staying anonymous for my safety in this online world of today. It's the cost of a more 'official' internet where actual business happens, where we can work, build, launch, etc.
Maybe the paranoia is unwarranted, and the leap is without danger. But is the trustworthiness gained enough to outweigh the risk. Not just professionally but personally.
I realize this vague language makes it sound like I am some sort of shadowy figure, I am not, I just belong to a group that gets targeted in online and offline spaces, and I've had a stalker in the past.
I do wonder how many other people are facing this dilemma, from and outside my community.

Spot on with the profile tips! One thing I’d add is leaning into Collections. It’s such an underrated way to build 'taste-maker' credibility. Instead of just upvoting and moving on, grouping tools into a 'Growth Stack' or 'Design Gems' list shows you’re actually thinking about how these products fit together. It turns your profile from a resume into a resource library for others.

@alexcloudstar That's right, it can also say something about your background and preferences, indeed ;)
@Nika - since you are mentioning the profile verification: I would argue that the information around that process is a bit light. I was only able to find some FAQ information on content moderation, but not really on the account verification process.
For me, as a fairly new user (and long time lurker), it is not 100% clear what that process really entails and how verification is actually done. I have a bit of a guess, but I'm thinking maybe it would make sense to have clearer info around this.
Just putting this out there as a thought...

@matt_rewo There were 2–3 types of verifications. Occasionally, a window would appear, and I had to solve a "puzzle" to prove I’m not a bot. Another type involved being logged out of devices, so I had to log in again. The last one is in your profile – I’m not entirely sure, but it might be related to the team review. I would also like to have a verification option with a passport or similar ID.
Thank you for this post @busmark_w_nika . This is a solid list already 👍
One thing I’d add: be consistent in how you show up. If someone clicks your profile after seeing a comment, they should immediately understand what you’re into and why your opinion matters. Random activity across unrelated topics can dilute that.
Also, quality > quantity in comments. A few thoughtful replies people upvote or reply to does more for credibility than posting everywhere.
Otherwise, totally agree — Product Hunt profiles quietly act like a reputation layer now. Polishing them is definitely worth the time.

@alpertayfurr So happy we are aligned in fundamentals :)
When it comes to comments, I really like those by @byalexai – always thoughtful :)
Have you experienced post rejection from the moderators? I've been trying to create, what I thought were well put together and valid forum topics that were relevant to my journey and each one of them has been rejected and I do not know why; I also find the guidelines not very helpful when it comes to understanding what I can do better.
Is this something you've gone through and have found a resolution to?

@jake_friedberg Have you tried to contact their support? And of course, I was also rejected a few times, and I had to improve the quality of the post. :)
@busmark_w_nika, I have contacted their support and have been told pretty much they don't know...so I'm guessing its some AI making the decisions.
But I'll continue to attempting submitting forum topics I think are interesting and hopefully something sticks.

@jake_friedberg My suggestion is to "gather" followers by any other way, e.g. contributing thoughtful comments under discussion posts.
Oh i skipped some part of profile (interests, goals...)
Thanks! I should fill.
