Curious: What’s your take on Eastern Metaphysics (BaZi, Feng Shui) in the tech world?

by

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m doing some research into the intersection of ancient wisdom and modern life, specifically focusing on Eastern Metaphysics (like BaZi/Four Pillars of Destiny, Feng Shui).

In many Asian cultures, these aren't just "fortune telling"—they are treated as strategic tools for business decisions, hiring, or choosing a launch date. I’m really curious to hear from PH community:

  • Awareness: Have you ever encountered these systems?

  • Belief: Do you view them as pure superstition, or do you think there is psychological/statistical value in them?

  • Usage: If an AI tool could analyze your "energy map" to suggest optimal working hours or team dynamics, would you try it?

I’d love to hear your honest thoughts—skeptics and believers are both welcome!

I know this sounds unconventional for Product Hunt, but I want to test the statistical accuracy of Eastern Metaphysics (BaZi) in a community of logical thinkers.

I’m not selling anything today. I’m just looking for data points and validation.

The Challenge: If you are open-minded (and brave), I invite you to participate in a blind reading.

  1. The Input: I need your Date of Birth, Exact Time, and City of Birth.

  2. The Output: I will reply with a brief analysis of your core personality traits, career strengths, or a major recent life event.

  3. The Verdict: You reply and tell me: Hit or Miss? (0% to 100% accuracy).

@clover333 Hey, I'm curious. What do you use to analyze the personality or strengths using birth time and date, and place?? Is it using the planets like astrology, or is feng shui very different?

Jane Yan Zhang

@kavyashree_s1 "Hey! Great question. You are spot on regarding the inputs—we use the exact birth time, date, and place, just like Western Astrology.

However, the underlying 'engine' is different. Instead of tracking physical planetary positions (like Mars or Venus), we use Chinese data models known as BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny) or Zi Wei Dou Shu (Purple Star Astrology). These systems map out the energy cycles and elemental balance (Five Elements) present at the specific moment you were born.

As for Feng Shui, that focuses on the environment/space, whereas this system focuses specifically on the person and their timeline.

@clover333 I see. It's interesting. So, it's based on the positions of the elements at the time a person was born. That is different from planetary positions. And is feng shui involved in this? Or is it seperate? Because in the title, you did mention feng shui, and I thought it was involved. Sorry, I don't have knowledge about any of these.
And do you do the reading yourself, or are you building a system that reads these positions and analyzes them?

Jane Yan Zhang

@kavyashree_s1 hiahia I mentioned Feng Shui in the title because it uses the exact same underlying logic (the Five Elements) as BaZi. Think of them as sister systems: BaZi analyzes the 'Person', while Feng Shui analyzes the 'Environment'. Since BaZi is based on complex but fixed logical rules, it is actually perfect for AI to analyze pattern matches instantly, which is what we are building!

Having previously lived in Japan for a few years and seeing the real-world impacts of this area (real or not is irrelevant), I think you might be on to something. I think a big challenge is going to be convincing a traditional people to use some brand new AI tool to help them determine a traditional value... maybe?

You might as well start building something lightweight and go from there. Try connecting with business employees in Asian countries. I have a feeling that Japanese salarymen might actually like this.

Jane Yan Zhang

@r221 My hypothesis is that while traditional masters offer a human touch, they are expensive and hard to access. AI can act as a 'private copilot'—offering privacy and instant accessibility for daily decision-making.I really appreciate the tip about Japanese salarymen. Thanks for the feedback!
