AI companion for dog training and care. Can it really replace real dog trainers?
Hey Product Hunt folks,
I’m Mark, CPO at PawChamp. Together with my team, we’re building PawChamp – a Dog Training and Care Companion app. Most of our team are pet parents, so this topic is very close to us.
When we started PawChamp, we wanted expert help to be available anytime, anywhere. At first, we added 24/7 chats with dog trainers – fast replies, real people. But humans have limits. They can’t always send long, detailed instructions right away. That’s how Pawchie AI was born.
Pawchie is your friendly dog training and care companion inside the app. He listens, remembers your dog’s context, and gives instant, safe, and practical answers. We trained him with certified trainers and behaviorists using positive reinforcement and verified materials. He doesn’t replace experts – he supports them.
If your dog chews furniture or barks at the door, you don’t want to wait even a few minutes. Pawchie answers instantly, explains what’s happening, and gives clear steps. And when the case is medical or risky, he redirects you to a vet.
When we looked at retention, users who talked to Pawchie came back more often than those who only chatted with human experts. The reason was simple – speed, personalization, tone. Pawchie is always available, always kind.
So I’m curious – what kind of help would you trust an AI companion with? And what should always stay in human hands?
P.S. Product Hunt users get 1 free month of Premium PawChamp. If you adopted your pup in 2025, you can get 2 free months with access to all content, Pawchie AI, and expert chats. Valid until Dec 31, 2025.

I think vet support should remain only human 🕊️
PawChamp
@kate_ramakaieva we think similarly, at least for now. We are already working on adding 24/7 health & care live chats with human experts, and video consultations are further in the roadmap.

I’d trust AI with training advice and tracking stuff, but anything health-related should stay with humans
PawChamp
@alina_yashchenko this is discussable. what is considered as health-related? IMO, AI can give some general health & care recommendations that may be beneficial to improve the life quality of the pet. But all that is vet related, requires medications, or vet visit, or diagnostics, or emergency cases should be confirmed and vetted by human experts.
PawChamp
I think AI can handle most of the generic requests, like how to train new command, how much food you need to give your pup.
But health related issues should be handled only by professionals, humans. It’s great that team are working on adding vet experts support to an app for 24/7 access. You shouldn’t wait any longer then couple of minutes when it comes to health
PawChamp
@dkazanovskyi yep we will strive to keep the same FRT below 1 minute and 24/7 access for health & care experts as we currently have for dog training experts.

A bit more about how we built Pawchie and what’s next.
There wasn’t a ready solution we could just use. Every model gave different, sometimes unsafe answers. So we started with a detailed master prompt for Pawchie’s personality, tone, and limits. Then we built what we called our internal “LLM Arena” – a testing setup where different language models competed against each other.
We tested GPT, Claude, Llama, DeepSeek, and others. Users rated answers without knowing the model. After thousands of responses, Claude stood out in tone, empathy, and accuracy – that became our base.
We added verified content from certified trainers and set clear limits. Pawchie speaks in the user’s language, avoids medical advice, and brings off-topic questions back to dog care. Most importantly, he sounds natural – not robotic, but empathetic and supportive.
Our vision is to make PawChamp a one-stop place for everything dog parents need. In the future, Pawchie will remind you to train, explain behavior, cheer you up, help find healthy treats and toys, suggest insurance, create custom plans, and even help book a groomer or vet visit. All in one place. Simple, caring, and always there when you need it.
