Is it possible to improve "AI SEO" on ChatGPT using Reddit?
by•
I have seen ChatGPT often cites Reddit when forming responses.
Last month, there was a flood of posts on LinkedIn recommending brands to establish a presence on Reddit for better AI SEO.
That got me wondering:
Do all AI models lean on Reddit, or is this more specific to ChatGPT?
And does having a brand presence on Reddit actually influence how ChatGPT gives out information?
Anyone who has tried it or knows about this new SEO technique?

I think Reddit can help, but not in the direct “AI SEO” way people are talking about.
From what I’ve seen, AI models use Reddit because it has a lot of real discussions and problem-solving threads. If your brand gets mentioned naturally in those conversations, then yes, AI tools may start surfacing your name more often.
But it’s not something you can just hack. Redditors don’t like self promotion and AI doesn’t give extra weight just because you posted. It’s more about community trust and real discussions.
So for me, Reddit is useful, but more as a place to build credibility and conversations rather than a direct ranking strategy.
Yes, @m_qasim67
That's what I thought too. The Reddit moderators are generally very particular about what can be posted (even I haven't yet). Brands can't suddenly come and make Reddit their place for marketing.
Thanks for your response.

I think Reddit can help with visibility, but “AI SEO” isn’t something you can just game with a few posts. Try to spark real conversations and trust as it matters so much more. Seems like being genuinely helpful in the right spaces beats any shortcuts.

@ashok_nayak From what I’ve seen, most LLMs (like ChatGPT) are trained on a wide mix of data, with Reddit being just one piece of the puzzle and not the main source. Genuine, organic mentions on different platforms may show up in results over time, but there’s no simple “hack” for visibility.
If anything, brands that try too hard to game it usually stand out for the wrong reasons.
Not confirmed: An SEO genius in my network told me about Reddit's weightage actually being reduced in citation from yesterday onwards.

I didn't investigate it in detail, but it’s true that Reddit has high authority in Google, and AI also pulls information from there. I would say there should be a strategy that involves website SEO: articles, influencer reviews, and forums such as Reddit. It also pulls some articles from Quora, but Quora is not as active now, so you don’t really need to invest much in it.

@ashok_nayak That's what I meant :)
Grok has X feed to pull data from, chatgpt wont do that. Hence results from reddit. But yeah having conversational content about your product on these websites like X or reddit will def help llm's crawl that data better.
I think all models lean on reddit but recently Chatgpt has stopped being relying too muchb on Reddit. In my recent queries and research on chatgpt regarding my projects i have realized the more specific u are in ur query the less likely its going to take info from the reddit.

Yesterday I read that AI is not using Reddit anymore. I cannot remember whether I saw the post on Twitter or Reddit (I regret not saving it)

@ashok_nayak I tried to look for that but couldn't find it. If I spot it again, I will let you know.
Interesting question 👀
I’ve been seeing the same chatter about this whole ai seo reddit thing. From what I get, ChatGPT and other llms were trained on a mix of internet data and reddit is a big chunk just cuz there’s so many q&a type convos there.
But the models don’t crawl reddit live…
they don’t magically know if a brand made an acc yesterday. What actually matters is if ppl are already talking about that brand or topic and those convos get big enough to be seen on google or linked around. Reddit threads tend to spread fast so they kinda get picked up indirectlly.
So yeah, having a genuine presence on reddit prob helps in the long run, but not like some secret hack. More like you’re just joining where the real convos are happening anyway.
That's insightful, @andrejgood
So it's the density of conversations that LLMs probably look for, right?

Interesting 🤔 While ChatGPT sometimes references Reddit, it doesn’t mean having a brand presence there will directly boost “AI SEO.” LLMs are trained on a wide mix of data, not just Reddit. Being active on Reddit may help visibility, but there’s little evidence it meaningfully changes how AI models generate responses.

I’ve also noticed a lot of AI responses pulling examples from Reddit discussions. Would love to hear from folks in SEO if this really moves the needle.
As I know the ChatGPT feeds itself with Reddit too. But most importantly, with Bing search results...
@tuliosousapro
Does ChatGPT rely on search engines? Bing search results?
@ashok_nayak Yes, sir! Even my little extension is already receiving traffic from ChatGPT....
