First time on Product Hunt. BE BRUTAL: What’s wrong with my app?

by

Hey Product Hunt,

My name is Panche and i am 28 years old. I’m new here, and honestly I’m still learning how this whole Product Hunt world works. I joined because I want to meet developers and founders, learn from you, and also share what we are building with real feedback from same-minded people.

I started my online business journey when I was 25. I went to university for 4 years, but it was not for me, so I left. Back then I had no experience about the internet and how it works (except games like Dota 2 lol), but I always wanted to do my own thing. I never wanted to be employee.

I downloaded a lot of courses from pirate torrent websites (SEO, marketing, high-ticket dropshipping) and spent months learning how online business works. Few months later, i opened my company in Bulgaria, because from my country (Macedonia) it was very hard (almost impossible) to setup any type of online business.

My first business ever was dropshipping premium strollers, car seats, and baby products. I spent $0 on ads and I pushed everything with SEO + organic marketing from the courses i learned. After 2 years of very hard work I achieved:

  • Over $200K revenue in total

  • Sold the business on Empire Flippers for $36K

After I sold the store, I immediately knew i wasn't leaving the baby niche. I already understood the parents, what they ask, what they struggle with, and I felt I can give value once again, but this time not only by delivering physical products.

That’s when I connected with my friend and senior developer, @slaveatan, which is the most skilled and creative dev i know. We decided to build something useful for parents and parents-to-be, and this is how we created Next9Months (next9months.com). He is building the product, and I’m pushing marketing, positioning, and distribution (what I know best).

What Next9Months is

Next9Months is a simple place for expecting parents to plan, choose, and share the fun moments, without making 10 different tools.

What you can do inside

  1. Baby Names Hub (not just a list)

  • Discover names with meaning, origin, pronunciation, and trend info

    Image

  • “NominoSwipe” style browsing (fast, card-by-card)

  • Also “last-name fit” idea, so you don’t choose name that sounds weird with your family name

  1. Poll Maker (super easy for guests)

  • Make polls for baby name, gender, due date, or anything custom

  • Share one link and people vote with no download and no sign-up

  1. Online Gender Reveal

  • Countdown + polls + optional comments

  • Guests join by link, again no download needed

  1. Verified naming data (credible trends)

  • We start with official U.S. Social Security Administration baby name records, so trends are based on real data (not random lists)

  1. Privacy and control (less drama)

  • Control visibility for results/comments

  • Ability to change links if needed
This is important because family + friends sometimes can get too involved.

We will add many more features for parents and upcoming parents. Also we plan App Store + Google Play versions, but for now we focus on making the core experience really good.

I want your honest feedback

  • What would you add or change first?

  • What feels missing for parents in the first 9 months?

  • Would you use it for names, for polls, for reveal, or none of these?

Thanks for reading, and hoping you're going to welcome me into this community. I’m here to learn and connect, so if you are founder/developer building consumer apps (especially family / parenting) and have any questions, make sure to DM me.

good product!

  • how do you plan on retaining users? once they choose the name what keeps them using beyond the name choosing?

  • Any chance you would introduce famous people with names? have a feature to show not only the data behind the name, but people in history who had the chosen name and what they accomplished?

Slave Atan

@xavier_toefield The Baby Names Hub is just one feature of the few big main features we have, so once the parent(s) chooses a name they can move to the Polls and Events features for which they have basically unlimited topics and opportunities to gauge feedback for their next steps in their parenting journey beyond name picks.

For the second point, each name has a Name Insights page that also includes cultural references for that name such as famous people, songs, literary/fictional names, etc.

Oh damn, you know what you are doing!

How did you come up with the idea for this and how long have you two been building it?

Thanks! We are building Next9Months somewhere around 4-5 months, we’ve had a lot of unexpected bumps on the road, but we’re days close to the launch. I personally talked a lot with the parents while operating my last business, and i was introduced with their problems and issues, so me and @slaveatan came up with this idea, on how can we make the parenting journey more fun and social.
