Which Data Recovery software is the best?

One of everyone's biggest nightmares is losing data.

It seems like I ritualistically deal with this every 6 years when my external drive fails, and then I have to get the whole history back (expensively).

Right now, after my 2 weeks of traveling I'm dealing with the same thing:

Recovering my data from the last 15 years, and I've tried all sorts of programs.

  • Recoverit Wondershare

  • Disk Drill

  • R-Studio

  • EaseUS data - this one seems to be the most effective

So I haven't gotten my data back yet because I have to buy a drive, but I'll make a change; I'll buy a chip instead of a magnetic one.

Learn from my mistakes and:

โ†’ Always back up at least 2 times.

โ†’ Ideally, keep things in the cloud, although I know some files are better kept locally.

โ†’ Don't carry disks when travelling (and be more careful with the bags you have the disk in). ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

What data recovery software do you use, and what advice would you give someone to avoid losing their beloved files?

I think Iโ€™ve been waiting for this question since my very first day on Product Hunt ๐Ÿ˜„

My first piece of advice: always make backups. The best approach is the 3-2-1 rule - keep backups in the cloud and on two separate devices.

It depends on your request:
- if you need to clone a failing drive, our software MultiDrive can help you with it: https://multidrive.io/
and it's free.
- if you need to recover data from failed drive some damaged files, any described above software can be okay.

For backup drives, Iโ€™d recommend well-known vendors such as Samsung, Seagate, Western Digital, or Crucial.
Personally, I prefer NVMe or SATA drives. If youโ€™re choosing an external SSD, make sure it supports USB 3.1 or 3.2 for better speed.

A good drive shouldnโ€™t start slowing down over time, I once bought a cheap Chinese drive, and it became painfully slow by my fifth backup ๐Ÿ˜…

@busmark_w_nikaย it's a good choice :)

Nika

@tetianaiย I bought it yesterday, now, I only need to somehow got my old files LOL :D

@tetianaiย Apparently the https://multidrive.io/ is Windows only. Do you happen to know about a MAC option?
Thanks and happy New Year.

Tetiana

@trumpeterย Thank you for the question. MultiDrive is built using the Avalonia .NET UI framework, which is cross-platform. Weโ€™re planning to add macOS support ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy New Year! ๐ŸŽ‰

Seriously, losing important data is a horrible experience. I have experienced it myself. Now, I make sure to back up my files every week and also carry an SSD for extra security.

Third party data recovery tools are a bit of a gamble; you canโ€™t fully rely on them to recover everything. They are worth trying only after you have tried all options on your own. I once tested Disk Drill and Advanced Disk Recovery using their free trials.

Nika

@lucytaylor01ย Do you know any program I can use for free to recover it?

DMA Anderson

EaseUS still, after all these years

Nika

@dmitchaย Do you have key for that? :D

DMA Anderson

@busmark_w_nikaย multiple ๐Ÿ˜! I've bought a number of their solutions - absolutely worth what's already a reasonable spend.

Nika

@dmitcha did you buy their monthly or lifetime access?

Thatโ€™s such a painful situation โ€” most people only take backups seriously after losing something important.

Iโ€™ve had similar scares, and the biggest lesson for me was separating backups: one local and one cloud, no matter how inconvenient it feels. Recovery tools can help, but prevention really saves the stress (and money).

Hope you manage to recover everything ๐Ÿคž

Nika

@bashircoย Thank you! :D Do you know anybody who has a serial key for EaseUS Data recovery? :D

Mahmoud Albashir

@busmark_w_nikaย Haha I wish ๐Ÿ˜„ unfortunately no โ€” I donโ€™t know anyone with a serial key. Hopefully the recovery works out though, fingers crossed ๐Ÿคž

Nika

@bashircoย I will try more recovery tools! :D thank you :D
