Let the agents ship

gm legends, happy Tuesday.

Codex is marching further into the AI dev race with a proper console for coding agents, ManePaw turns your chaotic Mac into something you can actually search in plain language, and Heuris gives your tired brain small, smarter learning sessions instead of another aimless scroll.

Agents with a proper console

Codex by OpenAI is a command center for running coding agents on real projects instead of keeping them trapped in one-off chats. You connect your environments, set up tasks like refactors, tests, migrations, and bug fixes, and let agents write and run code while you watch what they’re doing and step in when needed. It’s built for long-running, multi-step work with real tools, not just next-line autocomplete.

🔥 Our Take: AI coding has turned into an all-out land grab, with every tool trying to be where developers live all day. This release is OpenAI pushing harder into that fight with something that wants the middle of your workflow, not just another sidekick. The winner won’t be whoever ships the flashiest demo; it’ll be whoever quietly deletes hours of boring engineering work.

FROM THE FORUMS

Layoffs, AI, and that knot in your stomach

Mona started a thread about what it actually feels like to build a career in the middle of AI layoffs, especially as Gen Z. She talks about growing up “lucky” with tech, then watching roles get reshaped or replaced faster than anyone can adapt, and how that anxiety sits in the background for a lot of people right now. Her post is a pause button: instead of doom-scrolling every layoff headline, she’s asking how we can use this moment to learn to work with AI, lean on our own strengths, stay curious, find community, and decide what kind of work we really want to do next.

Spotlight but better

ManePaw is a native macOS app that lets you search and chat with your documents, code, images, and audio using natural language instead of filenames and folder diving. Everything runs locally on your Mac with Ollama, so there are no uploads, no accounts, and no data leaving your machine. It’s open source, indexes your files once, and then you can ask for things like contracts, snippets, or assets in plain English.

🔥 Our Take: Desktop search has not kept up with how people actually work now that everything lives in one chaotic mix of repos, exports, PDFs, and screenshots. A local tool that understands what you mean, respects privacy by default, and answers questions straight from your own files is a very sane middle ground between “hope Spotlight finds it” and “send your life to a random cloud app.”

Learning in small doses

Heuris lets you learn philosophy, history, art history, psychology, and economics through short AI conversations instead of dense articles. It adapts to what you explore and builds a daily feed of topics that match your interests. Each session links to what you have already done, so there is always a clear next step instead of starting from zero every time.

🔥 Our Take: Wanting to learn more is easy; figuring out what to read when you are tired at the end of the day is the hard part. This keeps the bar low on purpose, serving up small, focused topics and handling the navigation for you. It treats casual learning as something you can actually fit into real life, not a project you keep postponing.
