I made Casi because I hated that feeling of anxiety that creeps up when planning what to say to someone in Spanish. I was in Spain this summer and tried ordering coffee one morning. I looked up how to say can I have a latte in Google Translate which translated directly to puedo tengo un latte. I felt so confident! I practiced in my head a few times and then I walked up and said: Buenas Dias! Puedo tengo un latte?
It was a disaster. The barista thought I said te negra y un latte which meant I accidentally ordered a latte and black tea. It wasn t even the right way to ask for a latte (you say puedo tener or more directly dame un latte ). Better yet, I could have said dame un caf con leche which is what they call lattes in Spain. #themoreyouknow
Everyone learns language differently. Some of us are visual learners, some like to listen, and a few of us even like textbooks. What do all language learners have in common? A need to practice!
Casi (meaning "almost" in Spanish) is meant for practicing your new language no matter where or how you learn. Practicing with Casi removes language anxiety and increases your confidence while giving you helpful feedback along the way. No streaks, no notifications. You're in control!
