If they do create a standalone app focused on audio, I'd much prefer they focus on the discovery, consumption, and sharing of podcasts than a UGC play. Many startups have tried to make UGC audio work and none have succeed. I suspect this is because there isn't actual user demand for such a thing. I'm excited to announce that today 60dB launches. This is the project I've been involved with post-Product Hunt Podcasts. We've created an app that makes it easy to find short-form audio to listen to during your commute (while also making it possible to find the standard podcasts you know and love). I really like this change in direction and I'm excited to see where Hinge goes from here. However, in just trying the new app, the inability to easily re-arrange the order of profile pictures is annoying. =X

I recently found out about Laughable and it seems like a great idea! If you have a commute, are bored, like comedy, but have traditionally had a hard time easily finding stuff to listen to this could be the app for you. It makes it really easy to find interviews with and stand up from your favorite comedians. I'm excited to see where this goes!

@mubashariqbal this is really cool! Would it be possible to experiment ranking a leaderboard based on article popularity rather than # of followers? Eg surface the authors (or articles) based on recommended content rather than pre-existing status via follower count? Just a thought! Thanks for building this!

As best I can tell this tool was created by WNYC and open-sourced so that any individual developer or organization can use the technology to make audio more shareable on the web. There aren't many podcast-only apps with a social first focus and Tung is one of those apps. It aggregates social proof around specific episodes, kind of like Nuzzel does for articles, and allows you to recommend, clip, and talk about specific episodes with other people.
