What's great

I have been using it for a few days, during the trial period, it was amazing, even better than Cursor at some points. After the trial expired, I got the 49-dollar subscription, and now, in many cases, it behaves like a newborn kid. Understands something and does something completely different, starts processing, and then hangs (after consuming credits, of course). I will probably cancel the plan after the first month because so far, I'm quite disappointed.

What needs improvement

I suggest offering better plans until you can develop a more stable and reliable product.

How generous is the free plan in real use?

It is not good enough to check if it's what you are looking for

It’s damn good. It understands my code base, uses, how the things work. If it doesn’t it will search for examples, it will search the internet, github, get source code, look at different options. I want you to understand how good it is. So, I am attempting to create a map editor like StarCraft 2’s level editor, using Rust language and the Bevy game engine 0.16.1 (the latest version). Bevy is a relatively young engine with fast paced development and it is all code, no editor, and it has breaking changes constantly. Every 3 months a new version comes out. I went and overspent a bit too much on AI’s and so I have both Claude and ZenCoder. When Claude Sonnet 4.0 makes mistakes and can’t figure it out, ZenCoder is the one that can figure it out and fix them, explaining along the way. It’s come along quite good very quickly. ZenCoder hasn’t been trained on this bevy engine code, but it reads the code base, understands the code, the context. Highly recommended. I have found one little niggle weird. If I gave it rules such as use code that is only compatible with Bevy engine 0.16.1, it would use older variations of bevy engine code incompatible with bevy 0.16.1. But when I give it no rules, it uses code compatible with bevy 0.16.1. I have found the same to be true with all other LLMs as well so it’s not just a ZenCoder thing. No rules is the better option.

This is such an amazing software! As a solo SaaS founder it helps me a lot in code where I do not have the best knowledge and experience and so I am able to do minor changes myself. Further, it helps me a lot to understand code base build from others and learn more about the things I do not know very well, for instance React ;). In my own code base (C# for backend) it helps me to write better code and I learn day to day better ways to achieve my goals. I love it!

The learning part is fantastic - I sometimes use Zencoder to explain to me someone else's code, especially if it is in a programming language that I'm not very fluent in, and it can be a super educational experience!

Trial works Good once you pay the quality decreases exponentially now the chat runs shorter and gets over quicker ai forgets lots takes shortcuts and messes up codes I like how it can do complex stuff but only build a base and do small troubleshootings testings and debugs but when its a big code it looses it please create backups and dont trust this ai to always do good, But pricewise - good deal.

Hey Emmanuel, First off, thank you for taking the time to leave such a candid review. It stings a little (okay, maybe a lot 😅) to see a 1-star, but honest feedback is what keeps us sharp.

Interestingly, we haven’t heard this kind of issue from our users before - in fact, our enterprise customers can’t stop bragging about how solid our agents are (we sometimes have to blush). That said, every experience matters, and yours is no exception.

Hey @emmanuel_dongre - Vibor from the Zencoder DevRel, Community and Success team here. I was saddened to see your 1* review and would love to learn more about the issues you are facing.

We make no changes to models or any underlying tech when you go from trial to paid plans - it's literally the same infra, limits, whatever you had if you are staying on the same plan. That's why I'm surprised with your experience and would love dig deeper into this and see what went wrong.

As for the backups - regardless of the AI - it's a good practice to use git for your source (code) control but Zencoder also comes with the ability to undo (revert) your changes if you are not happy with what AI provides. Additionally, you have the granularity where you can accept or reject proposed changes to all files, a specific file or even single changes within the file.

It's one of the best copilots out there. I mostly use it to generate autosuggestions, func calls, boilerplate and do refactoring in Rust/Go.

Hey Yury I'm so happy you mentioned mobile apps. In addition to VS Code and JetBrains family of IDEs, Zencoder works great with Android Studio so building your mobile apps with Kotlin in it is way faster. Honestly, I don't know much about Kotlin. Still, I was able to build various trackers and even connect to some external data sources easily by just asking Zencoder how to do it.

Also, sometimes, I'll open a large open-source codebase like Vico for some charts and chat with it to help me understand what can be done. Great tool!
