I have only been using Willow Voice (both Mac and iOS) for two days, and it is already edging out a competitor's product I've used for 6 months. After joining their Slack community, I am very impressed to see how quickly they respond to user feedback.

vs Alternatives

I have used MacWhisper, TalkTastic, and Wispr Flow; the free version of each. I like that Willow Voice includes the Willow Assistant feature in the free version for initial evaluation. As mentioned earlier, I am only two days into my evaluation, but I'm extremely pleased so far. This really looks like a keeper!

Does it reliably auto-punctuate and fix grammar in context?

It is doing a very good job in handling punctuation and grammar as well as leaving out filler words. The Willow Assistant feature seems to work very well to rephrase raw draft material into something more usable.

How easy is setup and onboarding for first-time users?

Although the onboarding had a few more steps than some competitors' products, I felt it did a great job using those steps to create the initial settings.

How well does it integrate with Gmail, Slack, and Notion?

It is working well with all of the apps in which I have tried it, both on the Mac and iOS versions.

Absolutely loving this — 'Voice dictation that actually works' isn’t just a tagline, it’s the experience. The near-zero latency, AI-powered formatting, and ability to respond hands-free with 'Hey Willow' make it feel like the app anticipates my thoughts. This is a major leap for productivity and accessibility!

Good product, works with Cursor; however I uninstalled because there is no way to turn off the "You haven't used Willow in a while!" notifications. If your product lacks the ability to turn off nags, it's a big red flag for me. There isn't even a way to disable it in the Mac settings. Hopefully, this gets swiftly addressed in a future update. 4/5 for now, great product with one large flaw.

What's great

This app's speech-to-text accuracy captures every word perfectly (even technical terms or difficult names) and understands how to format text in different contexts. It’s fast, intuitive, and makes writing and coding feel much more seamless.

Willow's dictation is better than it's competitors because it understands the context of each use case and allows for user customization.

What's great

So much fun to ramble out and get cleaned up, formatted text. I got used to great STT through ChatGPT, now with Willow I get it anywhere at near instant processing. It just works. It's the first time dictation has become integral for my daily work. Typing feels archaic now.

What's great

I love that whatever I'm doing on my Mac, I can now speak into that application and my words appear typed, as if by magic. It's made me much more productive, but I also think it's made me much more prolific because I'm now committing words to screen I never would have done before. The Willow team has been incredibly responsive, and it's been a joy to see this product develop and grow so beautifully, so rapidly. I really can't recommend it enough.

Honestly, it felt like a no-brainer to choose Willow Voice because I was able to hit the ground running with no learning curve at all. It just works and it's awesome.

How well does it integrate with Gmail, Slack, and Notion?

I can't say I've used it with Slack or Notion, but I have used it pretty extensively with Gmail. Most of all I use it with Claude and ChatGPT, where it integrates really nicely.

Is the free version limited in features or usage?

As I understand it, the free version is only limited in terms of the number of words you can dictate. Everything else, I think, is fully functional.

How responsive is support when issues or bugs arise?

I've found Willow's support ultra-responsive. Really impressive.

What's great

I use Willow throughout my day. It saves me a whole bunch of time because it very accurately captures my dictation, and it helps me to talk rather than type, which speeds up all my activities throughout the day tremendously.

What needs improvement

If you turn on fast dictation, it will sometimes translate the language in which you dictate to English, which, in some cases, is not intended. Very often when I dictate something in another language than English, I want it to be transcribed in that language.

The developers know about this and are working for a solution. In general, I would say every bug or feature request that you share with them is acted on very diligently and with speed.

Wispr Flow

Because of the privacy and safety features, this product is designed with safety and privacy in mind and does not grab my data for its own benefit and training purposes. There are actually a number of certifications that they hold when it comes to privacy that none of their competitors hold.

Does it handle technical jargon or medical terminology well?

I've been amazed with how well it does that.

Can I customize auto-edits and banned phrases?

Yes it can. It does that by building knowledge about how you typically work.

How responsive is support when issues or bugs arise?

Support is very responsive and almost 24/7.
